This is the right way to deal with a child user of marijuana?

"No use having an aggressive attitude, wanting to hit the teenager. On the other hand, pretend you did not see does not help," replies Luiz Gonzaga Leite, coordinator of the Psychology Department, Hospital Santa Paula, São Paulo.

He explains that the best way is to talk, to know why the search for marijuana. "The conversation is not as simple as it seems. Usually, the couple will deny any way of using drugs, saying that the package is a friend, for example." If this happens, the family can see signs in common who has this habit: changing patterns of behavior, isolation, loss of sense of time, day trading in the evening, irritability, extreme lack (or increase) of appetite, restless sleep, red eyes and need more sleep.

When the teenager is already a high degree of dependence on marijuana, the conversation is even more important. Talk about a delicate subject it is necessary to know the cause of the problem before treating it. And this cause is usually a situation that afflicts the User. "Many cases have the backdrop of difficulties and emotional problems. As the adolescent is vulnerable, having not yet formed its identity are characterized by mood swings and low self-esteem. This is the couple wish to be accepted on a wheel friends, and he ends up accepting any condition, "says Luiz.

Although it is a drug with a more lightweight, marijuana exposes the User to a huge risk. "In most cases, the person begins to use small doses of marijuana to mask the problems. And there is a way of escape, out of touch with reality. But over time, increases the tolerance of his body and she feels that need higher doses of substances and stronger, "says the doctor.

Luiz stresses that, in time to deal with the problem, each case deserves special attention, with the right opinions. Sometimes, hospitalization might be a good treatment option, because there is the User away from influences such as the drug smuggler and his companions in drug use. "Moreover, the family suffered less emotional distress, since it is difficult for parents to be prepared to deal with a dependent child," adds Luiz. He said some health plans cover up to 15 days of hospitalization.

In other cases, the family can help in a more present, keeping the User at home. "The drug addict usually has difficulties in dealing with the limits and frustrations. So who is taking care of him needs to be firm without being hard, and treat it with love and touch," teaches the doctor. There is also option of clinics and hospitals where the patient spends the day and can go home at night.
